How Swell began
A better question.
A different kind of bar.
Our story began with a product-design project in San Luis Obispo. The question was simple: could personal care use less plastic and still be something people loved to use?
Start with the everyday.
The early work at Cal Poly looked at two familiar options: plastic bottles and traditional bars. Solid care offered a different path, but the experience needed more thought.
Design around the details.
Prototyping led to a protective beeswax shell, a base to hold and elevate the bar, and a cap for travel. The format became part of the care.
Keep making it better.
Today, we develop our formulas and manufacture Stem in our own San Diego facility. Keeping that work close lets us keep refining the product, from ingredients to the finished bar.
