Do I need a conditioner too?
Stem is formulated to cleanse and condition in the same wash. Cocoa butter, pro-vitamin B5, and rice protein provide conditioning care to help leave hair soft and manageable.
Start with Stem on its own and see how your hair feels. If your hair needs additional moisture or detangling, you can add conditioner where needed.
Is Stem safe for color-treated hair?
Yes. Stem Hair is designed for color-treated hair, with a gentle, sulfate-free cleanse.
Is Stem suitable for all hair types?
Stem Hair is designed for straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair. Start with the amount that works for your hair’s length and thickness, and adjust any extra conditioning care to suit your needs.
Where is Stem designed, formulated, made, and shipped?
Right here in San Diego, California. We develop our formulas and manufacture Stem in our own facility, then ship it from San Diego.
How do I use Stem?
Remove the cap and attach it underneath the base. Wet your hair and the bar, work up a lather, massage through your hair, and rinse well. Keep the bar out of standing water and let it dry before covering it for travel. Our illustrated guide shows how to open and adjust the protective shell.
What are the caps and bases made from?
The cap and base are made from our proprietary spruce-wood and natural-sap material. The base gives you a grip and keeps the bar elevated; the cap covers the bar for travel once it’s dry.

We work with U.S.-based ingredient partners, with most ingredients originating in the United States and South America. See the full ingredient details for each scent.
How long does a bar last?
A full-size Stem Hair bar offers up to 120 washes. How long it lasts depends on your hair’s length, how much and how often you use it, and storage. Let it dry between uses and keep it out of standing water. Stem Body usage will vary too.
What comes with each bar?
Every full-size Stem Hair bar is 4.6 oz and comes with its beeswax shell, base, and cap. Stem Body is a cleansing and exfoliating bar with its own shell, base, and cap.
Can I mix Hair and Body, and how do the bundle discounts work?
Yes. Mix full-size Hair and Body bars in any scents. Choose 2–3 bars for 40% off, 4–7 for 50% off, or 8+ for 60% off. Bundles of 2+ bars include free US shipping. Minis are excluded.
How does shipping work?
